Mobius (est. 1977) is a non-profit, artist-run organization, whose mission is to generate, shape and test experimental art. The members of the organization believe an effective strategy for supporting this art is to establish grounds that build relationships among fellow artists. Mobius is committed to structuring environments that foster projects incorporating a wide range of disciplines. This approach sets in motion situations where the artist's impact can be seen locally, nationally and internationally. Constructing art initiatives outside accepted frameworks and encouraging animated discourse with the public are fundamental to Mobius.
Mobius has long been committed to creating artist exchange projects bringing artists from different geographic regions to work together. The international exchange projects with artists from Macedonia, Croatia, Poland, and Taiwan have focused on site-specific and publicly-sited work. Mobius has presented work involving thousands of artists over its 30-year history and is recognized as one of the seminal alternative, artist-run organizations in the U.S.
Founded by Marilyn Arsem in 1977, Mobius is known for incorporating a wide range of the visual, performing, and media arts into innovative live performance, video, installation and intermedia works. Mobius has produced hundreds of original works that have attained critical acclaim in Boston, nationally and internationally. Works created at Mobius have been presented throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia.
BOB RAYMOND EXHIBIT
Grace Space will also be hosting a companion exhibition of the works of Bob Raymond
Bob Raymond is a long-time member of the Mobius Artists Group. He is an intermedia artist who has worked in many forms of electronic visual and aural media. In the past, he has engaged in performance, installation, sound environment composition, video, and photography.
He has been documenting (photographically and at times using video) the work of Mobius members and other experimental artists who might cross paths with Mobius since the early 1980s. He also maintains the photographic archives of Mobius, Inc. Until recently, he had worked for over 20 years as an engineering manager in the television industry. He is now weighing his future options on a precise scale, one by one. The floor of his workshop is littered with them.
